Biography
Hello! I’m a freelance illustrator based in Derby, UK, with over 20 years of professional experience creating distinctive, engaging illustrations for clients across the UK and around the world.
Experience
Over the past two decades, I’ve created custom illustrated maps for hotels, schools and colleges, businesses, events and magazines. My maps have been used to showcase hotel amenities, highlight destinations for magazine readers, communicate the core values of a college, and even help video game players navigate fictional worlds.
I've created editorial illustrations for trade and professional journals, lifestyle magazines, special interest and niche publications. I love creating expressive scenes using fun characters and bold colour palettes, bringing articles to life with a playful perspective.
My illustration work has also featured in advertising, design and publishing projects for a wide range of clients.
How I can help with your illustration project
I start an illustrated map project by doing detailed research to gather accurate location information. I combine this with creative illustration to produce maps that are engaging, clear, functional and easy to use. A successful map needs to communicate information effectively whilst also having its own visual character.
For editorial illustration, I start by reading and absorbing the article, allowing the ideas and themes within the writing to spark concepts and sketches. I then look for creative ways to capture the essence of the article in a single, memorable illustration.
For every project, I work with the client to understand what is needed, then create detailed sketches, which are refined and revised before creating final artwork. I work digitally using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Affinity Designer. I’m professional, reliable and committed to producing thoughtful, high-quality work that meets the brief and the deadline.
